1. Hidden Valley and Primm Extreme ATV Tour

Hidden Valley and Primm Extreme ATV Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 4 to 5 hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Departure Time: Variety Available
  • Includes: Helmet, gloves and goggles, guide, bottled water, transportation to / from select Las Vegas Strip hotels

Let’s start things off with the Hidden Valley and Primm Extreme ATV Tour. Lasting 4 to 5 hours, it’s the perfect amount of time to spend to simultaneously relax and have a ton of fun! Including hotel pickup and drop-off, all you have to worry about is bringing along a sense of adventure!

A lot of people want to go to Vegas, but aren’t fans of the crowds. That may be a difficult dichotomy for some, but if you are into off roading you’re in luck!

You’ll start off by you and the rest of your group being picked up by an air-conditioned, comfortable vehicle that will transport you there and back. The trip there is only maybe 20, 30 minutes max so it’s not like it’s a hassle to get out there.

Along your route, you’ll pass the legendary Seven Magic Mountains, which is one of the most famous desert art installations in the area. If you’ve driven to Vegas before, you know that there are a ton of desert art installations out there, so that is really saying a lot.

Once you arrive on location, the staff will give you a safety briefing. This safety briefing is pretty, well, brief. As this tour does require that you have prior ATV experience, there’s not much instruction on how to use the vehicle, aside from the very basics. That makes sense though, and that’s not to say the staff wasn’t helpful.

Now you’ll get to zoom around the other-worldly desert landscapes, over winding rails, to mountain overlooks, and exhilarating, off-road racetracks. The lava beds were a crowd favorite of almost everybody, and really makes you feel like you’re on another planet.

ATV Tour in Las Vegas with Hotel Pickup

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Departure: 6925 Speedway Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89115
  • Departure Time: Variety Available
  • Includes: Helmet, gloves and goggles, bottled Water, air-conditioned, pickup and drop-off option

Next up, we have a slightly shorter tour that’s perfect if your day is packed with plans. The ATV Tour in Las Vegas with Hotel Pickup lasts 3 hours, yet still includes hotel pickup and drop-off so everything is smooth and streamlined without having to pay for or schedule transportation in addition.

This one is great for those who haven’t gone ATV riding before, just as well for those who are experienced pros!

Once you’re picked up, you’ll share the shuttle bus that services any resort or hotel within the Las Vegas valley. Just be prepared for it taking up to 30 minutes to get to your destination, depending on how heavy traffic is, and how many stops there are.

Unlike the last tour, this one utilizes a shared shuttle instead of a private one. Not to worry though, as it doesn’t get packed or uncomfortable and is more or less the same amount of time spent in the vehicle.

Once you arrive on location, you’ll check in with the crew, where they’ll get you all fitted with your gear. We noticed that the goggles and helmets were in very good condition, and fit very well.

We appreciated the “little things” like the fact that they offer snacks and have restrooms and lockers included to keep your valuables.

After you are all ready to go, you’ll receive a briefing on safety and how to drive the ATVs. Before you set out, you can choose to take a few spins on their practice track, too. The staff is super friendly and helpful, should you have any doubts or questions.

The 30-minute ride is a blast, and comes with a free Hot Shot Photo of the group with your ATVs or Buggies, too.

The trails can be a bit challenging, especially if you decide to go faster, but you can rest assured there is something for every experience level. The guides even made suggestions to change things up a bit and add even more excitement into the mix.

Half-Day ATV Tour from Las Vegas

We found them to be very attentive, making sure everyone has a good time without being put in danger. They always make sure everyone has enough water, too, which is essential when out in the sunny desert.

The views are absolutely amazing, with the McCullough Mountain Range surrounding the area. We guarantee you’ll love the extinct lava beds, which feel like you’ve been transported to another planet or something!

The Primm Valley overlook is also breathtaking, and you’ll have plenty of time to grab some photos or videos!

Las Vegas ATV Tours – Which Ones Are Worth Your Money

Twenty minutes off the Strip the neon quits and the desert takes over.

Ten minutes past that you’re standing next to a Polaris Trail Boss with a helmet in your hand, wondering if you actually know how to drive this thing.

You do, or you will in about ten minutes. That’s the whole point of a guided tour, and it’s why this is one of the few things to do in Vegas that doesn’t involve a cover charge or a hangover.

Why This Is Worth a Day Off the Strip

Most people fly into Vegas and never look past the casino floor.

That’s a mistake, because the Mojave Desert around the city is genuinely dramatic. Red sandstone, old mining ghost towns, a mountain range with pine trees forty five minutes from a slot machine.

An ATV tour is the fastest way to see any of it without renting a car and figuring out desert driving yourself.

It’s good for first timers. Every operator worth booking runs you through a training loop before you hit real trail, so prior riding experience isn’t required.

It’s good for groups. Bachelor parties, family reunions, corporate outings, the whole thing is built around groups of four to twenty.

It’s not good for people who hate dust. You will be covered in it by the end, no matter which operator you pick.

It’s also not good if you want a slow, scenic drive with time to read every plaque. For that, rent a car and drive the Valley of Fire scenic loop yourself.

An ATV tour moves.

How the Day Actually Goes

The name on the tour rarely matches the real time commitment. A three hour Valley of Fire tour means three hours of riding, but the full day, pickup to drop off, usually runs closer to five hours.

Budget for a shuttle ride each way, a safety video and a short training loop before anyone touches real trail, and a lunch stop built into the middle of the ride on the longer tours.

Reviewers say this often enough that it’s worth repeating here. If you’ve got a flight that night or a pool party booked right after, block off the whole afternoon instead of squeezing the tour into a gap.

Most operators have a wash off area back at base, so you won’t walk into your hotel lobby covered in red dust. Ask about it if it matters to you.

When to Go

October through April is the move. Daytime highs sit in the 60s and 70s, mornings are crisp, and the desert light is better for photos.

Summer in Las Vegas is not a joke. June through September regularly hits 105 to 115 degrees by early afternoon, and riding an ATV in that heat is genuinely dangerous, not just uncomfortable.

If summer is your only option, book the first slot of the day. Most operators run something they call First Tracks and get you out by 7 or 8 a.m., before the real heat sets in.

Or skip the desert entirely and book Mt. Charleston instead. It sits at higher elevation, the air is pine forest instead of open sand, and it runs twenty to thirty degrees cooler than the Strip on the same afternoon.

Spring can bring dust storms and the occasional closure. Check the forecast the morning of, not the week before.

What You’re Actually Riding

Ask this before you book, because the vehicle changes the whole experience.

A standard ATV, usually a Polaris Trail Boss or Yamaha Grizzly, is a single rider quad. Automatic transmission, no shifting, you drive yourself.

A UTV or RZR is a two seat side by side with a steering wheel and pedals, closer to driving a small dune buggy than riding a quad. Couples who don’t both want to drive tend to pick this.

A dune buggy is its own thing, mostly offered by SunBuggy for their Mini Baja Chase, and it’s built for speed on open sand, not technical trail.

If you’re nervous, ask about the passenger option. Most Valley of Fire operators will let a guide drive you on the back of an ATV instead of putting you behind the wheel.

If you’ve ridden before and want more, Adrenaline ATV Tours runs a Yamaha YXZ option with real paddle shifting and Polaris RZRs alongside the standard automatic fleet. Ask for it by name, since it’s usually not the vehicle you get by default.

Where to Ride

Four real options exist within an hour or two of the Strip, and they are not interchangeable.

Valley of Fire State Park

This is Nevada’s oldest state park, 40,000 acres of red sandstone about 45 minutes to an hour northeast of the Strip on I-15.

The Fire Wave, Elephant Rock, Mouse’s Tank, and petroglyphs that date back more than 2,000 years are all inside the actual park boundary.

Adrenaline ATV Tours runs out of a private ranch facility inside the Valley of Fire itself, with a fleet of Polaris and Yamaha quads and a three hour tour that includes lunch.

SunBuggy also books a Valley of Fire tour, but it runs the Logandale Trail System, which sits adjacent to the park and offers similar red rock scenery without technically entering it.

That distinction matters if seeing the actual Fire Wave and the petroglyphs is the reason you’re booking. Ask the operator directly which trail system they use before you pay.

A third option, Grand Canyon Tour Company, runs a straightforward 2.5 hour ride on automatic Polaris 325 Trail Boss quads. Water is included, drivers need to be at least 16, and the pace is more scenic than adrenaline.

Eldorado Canyon and the Nelson Ghost Town

Nelson, Nevada is a real 1861 mining town, not a recreated one, with the old Techatticup Mine, rusted trucks, and buildings that have shown up in more than one movie shoot.

Awesome Adventures runs a half day tour here that combines a walking tour of the ghost town with several hours of ATV or UTV riding through the canyon, priced as a package for two riders sharing a vehicle.

Above All Las Vegas ATV Tours also runs Eldorado Canyon, on a shorter two hour version, and it’s the one outfit in town that lets kids as young as six ride along as passengers.

Mt. Charleston

Forty five minutes from the Strip and a different world entirely, with pine forest, switchbacks, and elevation instead of open desert.

This is the pick on a brutal summer afternoon, or for anyone who’s already done the red rock circuit and wants something that doesn’t look like every other Vegas ATV photo.

The Dunes

SunBuggy’s home location near the Speedway runs a straightforward one hour dune ride plus the option to add their Mini Baja Chase, which is a genuinely fast, solo dune buggy run and not for anyone who wants a mellow scenic tour.

For people who actually want to climb real sand dunes, SunBuggy also runs trips out to Big Dune near Amargosa Valley, close to Beatty, about ninety minutes to two hours from the Strip.

What It Actually Costs

Entry level tier is the SunBuggy dune ride, which shows up on deal sites around 90 to 100 dollars per person for a 60 minute ride, though that’s a promo rate and the standard price runs higher.

A standard guided Valley of Fire tour, two and a half to three hours with lunch, runs in the 170 to 200 dollar per person range depending on the operator.

The Eldorado Canyon ghost town combo is priced differently, as a package for two people sharing a UTV, and lands closer to 550 dollars for the pair once fees are added in.

Most operators hold a refundable damage deposit, often around 300 dollars per ATV, in cash or a credit card pre-authorization. You get it back if the machine comes back in one piece.

Age requirements vary more than you’d expect. SunBuggy requires drivers to be 18 or older, other Valley of Fire operators allow 16 with a signed parental waiver, and Above All Las Vegas is the only one that takes riders as young as 6, strictly as passengers.

Weight limits catch people off guard too. Standard quads at SunBuggy top out around 175 pounds, with a 300 pound limit on their full-size luxury class.

If you’re on the larger side, ask about the upgraded vehicle class when you book, not when you show up.

Hotel pickup and drop off, helmet, goggles, and gloves are standard across every operator worth booking. Lunch is usually only included on the longer half day tours.

Skip the photo package add-on if the operator already includes free photos, which several do. Pay for extended ride time only if you actually finished the standard tour wanting more, which happens more often than you’d think.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need ATV experience to book a tour?

No. Every operator worth booking runs a short training loop before the real trail starts, and guides adjust the pace for beginners in the group.

What age can drive an ATV in Las Vegas?

It depends on the operator. SunBuggy requires 18 and up, several Valley of Fire outfits allow 16 with a parent’s signed waiver, and Above All Las Vegas lets kids as young as 6 ride as passengers only.

Is summer a bad time for a Las Vegas ATV tour?

For the desert routes, yes. Book the earliest slot of the day or switch to Mt. Charleston, which runs noticeably cooler than the Valley of Fire or Eldorado Canyon in July and August.

Should I book a single ATV or a two seat UTV?

If you or your partner would rather not drive, get the UTV. It’s the same trail and the same scenery, just with a wheel and pedals instead of handlebars, and a guide can drive it for you if you ask.

Is the Valley of Fire tour actually inside the state park?

Not always. Some operators run the adjacent Logandale Trail System instead of the park itself, so ask directly before booking if seeing the Fire Wave and the petroglyphs is the point of your trip.

What should I wear?

Long pants, closed toe shoes, and a jacket if you’re going between November and February, because mornings in the desert start cold even when the afternoon doesn’t. Sandals are not allowed on any tour, no exceptions.
