How far is it to Antelope Canyon from Las Vegas?

It’s about 280 miles and depending on traffic it should take you 4 1/2 hours. If you don’t have a car, I would recommend a guided tour that has transportation included. There are three ways to get there:

  • Route 1: I-15 N, US-89 S
  • Route 2: I-15 N, US-89A S
  • Route 3: I-40 E, US-89 N

Which section of Antelope Canyon should I go?

There are two sections of the canyon the Upper and Lower.

Upper Antelope Canyon is more popular and easier to access. It’s well known for the light that shines through the narrow openings of the canyon walls. The light is most visible between June and August, around midday. unfortunately it’s also the peak season for crowds. You can beat some of the crowd by going in either the early morning or late in the afternoon.

Lower Antelope Canyon is the less crowded section and for more adventurous people. You will need to so some climbing and crawling to get through the narrow narrow passages. You will need see the same lighting effects, but it is a more interesting trails that twists and turns. The best time to see and explore the Lower Antelope Canyon is also around midday. This is when the sunlight really shows the colors of the rocks.

Can you see Antelope Canyon without a tour?

Unfortunately you can’t see Antelope Canyon without a guided tour. Antelope Canyon is a sacred site of the Navajo Nation and you can only be hike it with an official guide and a permit. See one of our recommened tours to see the canyon.

Can you see Antelope Canyon in one day from Las Vegas?

The answer is yes but it will be a long day. Most tours leave by 6am and return around 9pm. Keep in mind the driving time is 9 hours so your time is limited there. The canyon is so amazing that even with limited time it is still worth seeing!
