The 5 Best Copenhagen Food Tours [2026 Reviews]

Copenhagen is one of the most underrated cities in Europe currently, and their food scene is having a serious moment. This is the city that sparked New Nordic cuisine, and while it’s known for its fine dining, its smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) are basically edible art and the street food markets are absolutely insane.

However, there’s a TON to experience, so if you really want to maximize your time there, I recommend going on a proper food tour. I’ve gone ahead and reviewed the 5 top Copenhagen food tours, that are well worth your time and money. Let’s hop right in!

1. The Copenhagen Culinary Experience Food Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Departure: Frederiksborggade 19, 1360 København
  • Departure Time: 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM
  • Includes: Tasting at Arla Unika (Michelin supplier), Gourmet smørrebrød, organic hot dog of your choice, handmade sweets, pastry, chocolate treats, glass of Danish craft beer or cider

Let’s kick things off right with The Copenhagen Culinary Experience Food Tour, which has impressively been running since 2011. It’s easy to tell they’re long-operating, given the vast information the guides possess, their tight vendor relationships, and the never-ending lore.

As an independent, locally-owned operation as opposed to a global tour chain, you can expect an authentic local perspective. There are a couple of different start times available, and you don’t have to deal with any logistical planning, as your guide comes right to your hotel to pick you up.

We wasted no time, as we had a whopping 8 different tastings spanning traditional Danish essentials and modern New Nordic dishes waiting for us. We started out at Torveallerne market with 3 different award-winning cheeses from Arla Unika, which serves Michelin-starred restaurants.

I loved the delicious pastries we had in between the cheese stop and the historic Cafe & Ølhalle 1892, too! The latter had us trying traditional open-faced sandwiches in a beer hall, paired with craft beer, cider, or non-alcoholic alternatives.

Our guide did a fantastic job of explaining the smørrebrød tradition and why they became so popular on a national level. Along our journey, we stopped and took a stroll through the Botanical Garden while sampling Lakrids chocolate-coated licorice, ventured through the Latin Quarter’s charming streets, and passed the Round Tower and Church of Our Lady Cathedral .

I had no idea Denmark’s craft beer scene went so hard, but our stop at SKAAL certainly educated me! Here, have an organic hot dog of your choosing and wash it down with a brew before ending up at the organic chocolatier, Summerbird.

This was one of the most comprehensive and well-organized that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

2. Copenhagen Private Food Walking Tour with 6 or 10 Tastings

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 2 to 3 hours
  • Departure: Several available
  • Departure Time: Between 11:30 AM & 4:30 PM
  • Includes: PRIVATE tour – only you and your local, 6 or 10 food & drinks tastings of high-quality local products – depends on the option you book, Vegetarian alternatives – PRIVATE multilingual local foodie guide

A lot of people are apprehensive of trying a tour, because they don’t want to just be another head in the crowd or be stuck with strangers. While group tours are usually a great experience, I can totally understand the appeal of a completely private tour, having the guide all to yourself.

If that sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend the Copenhagen Private Food Walking Tour with 6 or 10 Tastings. This tour is a bit shorter than the previous one, typically lasting anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, depending on your preferences.

However, this makes it more flexible in terms of itinerary and scheduling as there are plenty of different start times available. Meet up with your guide in the city center and start at Torvehallerne, which is the city’s beloved food market that’s the perfect starting point if you really want to understand local food culture.

From there, you’ll venture through the Danish classics, like traditional hot dogs, Danish pastries in their authentic form, open-faced sandwiches, and beyond. Your guide is there to explain each dish and its background, like how it came to be, and why it’s still popular today.

Keep in mind that this is a completely personalized experience, so you aren’t stuck to any strict itineraries or stops, though I do think what our guide had planned for us was perfect.

Of course, cuisine doesn’t exist in a vacuum, so you’ll receive the full download on local culture and history, as well as insider tips on other places to visit and how the food reflects Danish values and daily life.

With an expert host there to help navigate the city, there’s no stress around getting lost or wasting time figuring out transit. This tour is perfect for couples, families, small groups, and even solo travelers wanting personalized Copenhagen food education without group tour constraints.

3. 3-hour Culinary Bike Tour in English

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Departure: Holbergsgade 12, 1057 København
  • Departure Time: 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM
  • Includes: Small group guided tour, bike use, food and bike tour, sample top Danish dishes

If you’re short on time and really want to amplify your Copenhagen experience, you have to check out the 3-hour Culinary Bike Tour in English. Whether you’re a foodie or just want to dive deep into the local cuisine far beyond the surface, you’ll find that this excursion flies by.

Copenhagen is THE bike city, so it’s super easy to get around, and it covers so much more ground than you can with walking tours. There are a ton of different start times available, making it really convenient if you have a busy schedule.

Not only that, but you’re in a small-group setting, capping out at just 10 participants, to make it that much more exclusive and easy to move through the city. Start off by meeting your guide at Hoejbro Plads, learning all about how the city was founded while you munch on easily the best hot dog around.

A visit to the TorvehallerneKBH food halls is absolutely necessary while exploring the Danish food scene. It’s here where you’ll get to try the traditional fish cake on rye bread with sauce, pickled onions, and lemon. I have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive of fish cake, but I was instantly hooked!

You’ll follow that up with some of the most delicious, melty chocolate, along with a cream bun and amber butterfly (I know these names are crazy).

Explore around King’s Square and take a bit of a break to sit down, rest your feet, and try the Danish open-faced sandwiches we’ve been talking so much about. The experience isn’t complete without a shot of snaps and Vienna Bread!

4. Copenhagen Culinary Food Tour with 6+ Tastings of Danish Classics

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Departure: Københavnerkirken, Bethesda, Rømersgade 17, 1362 København
  • Departure Time: 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM
  • Includes: Two types of local Smørrebrød, Traditional Danish Meatballs, A bite of Roast pork with crispy crackling, Organic Danish Hot-dog bliss, Luxurious Cardamom twist, Our delicious Secret Dish, Carlsberg on draft, Organic Kombucha shot

Next up is the Copenhagen Culinary Food Tour with 6+ Tastings of Danish Classics. This 3-hour excursion has a straightforward approach, starting at Torvehallerne market, taking you through the city’s historic heart, and ending up near City Hall Square.

The routing covers Copenhagen’s essential landmarks, with a venture through traditional Danish dishes, with a pro local guide to offer cultural background and a full stomach of treats.

There are a few different start times available, typically covering lunch and dinner times. It’s the perfect alternative to going out to a restaurant for dinner, as you’re expanding your possibilities and learning so much more than you ever would from a regular dinner outing.

Plus, you’ll get to try plenty of food that you likely wouldn’t have ordered, otherwise – this is how I found some of my current favs! You’ll notice that most of the best Copenhagen food tours start at Torvehallerne, which makes sense as it’s an iconic market that sells everything “Danish food”.

It’s where some of the best restaurants in the city get their ingredients, as well as countless locals who’ve been coming here for years. Spending over an hour here really lets you explore, and your guide is there to show you the best vendors, skipping the tourist traps.

From there, head to Strøget, which is one of Europe’s oldest streets and is lined with amazing sightseeing, understanding Copenhagen’s layout and history while trying traditional dishes.

I had a great time at one of the city’s oldest bars for draft Carlsberg and all the lore. Kongens Nytorv is one of the city’s oldest squares, and we got to witness incredible architecture before sampling pastries, the “Secret Dish”, and much more!

5. Copenhagen Modern Food Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Departure: Pincho Nation, Fiolstræde 44, 1171 København
  • Departure Time: 11:30 AM
  • Includes: Brunch, Snacks, Lunch, Alcoholic Beverages, Bottled water, All Fees and Taxes, Transportation ticket

Last but certainly not least, is the Copenhagen Modern Food Tour, which, as the name suggests, focuses on the newer local concepts and techniques, with some traditional aspects mixed in.

It’s a fantastic way to uncover some delicious Danish specialties, and I noticed that we explored some neighborhoods that we hadn’t covered in other local food tours. It’s the perfect complement to taking one of the more traditional Copenhagen food tours, offering different perspectives and areas that aren’t as tourist-heavy.

If you’re thinking of going out to lunch, I heavily suggest taking this tour instead. Starting off right before lunchtime and stretching into the early afternoon, it’s a great alternative that’ll expand your horizons and palate.

I can almost guarantee you’re going to try ingredients and flavors that you never have before, which is one of the most exciting and enriching parts about travel. Expect to see 8 different culinary gems featured at an array of hand-selected eateries, by a guide who knows Copenhagen like the back of their hand.

Our guide was actually an archaeologist as well, and we got an INSANE amount of storytelling and context that I felt like we honestly should’ve been paying extra for! We got to try some food spots influenced by noma, as well as a Middle Eastern food destination, which was a nice switch-up while still tying into the rest of the tour.

As a serious pastry aficionado, this was a real treat, in every sense of the word. If it’s your first time in the city, I definitely suggest going on this excursion, as you’ll learn more than you even thought possible.
