Whether you’d consider yourself a foodie or simply want to bring some authentic Spanish recipes back home with you, this tour is a fantastic choice. Start out by meeting at The Paella Club, located in the beautiful Ciutat Vella, where you’ll meet your guide and the rest of your small group!
I found we had the perfect group size for fun and interesting conversation and camaraderie, with all of us working together toward a shared goal. The tour typically starts around 5 pm, making it perfect after a day of sightseeing, though it may be a bit early if you’re already used to later-night dining, as is custom in Spain.
I was so excited to get started on our 4-course Spanish dinner with paella and cava, so I was happy that our guide wasted no time and we dove right in to preparing ingredients for our pan tomaquet. The kitchen was super spacious with plenty of room to move around and work while we went through the full 10 steps of paella-making!
After we all finished, we got to all sit down around the table and enjoy our masterpieces with some fantastic Spanish wine, and a few other courses. After the class, our guide provided us with copies of all recipes so we could take them home with us!

La Boqueria market is an experience in itself – one that can be intimidating if you go it alone for your first time. Luckily, you have a pro chef with you to lead the way this time!
After shopping, head back to the GAB LAB for a fun sangria-making workshop and tapas tasting, prepping Padron pepper, cheeses, cured meats, pan con tomate, and more while sipping on your creation.
We then went into learning how to safely prep seafood, going step-by-step into making our paella while listening to our entertaining guide’s stories and tips. After we finished, it was time for us all to sit down and enjoy our meal!
The crispy socarrate rice layer and incredible seasoning made this paella easily one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The almond cake dessert was a lovely and very welcome contrast, as well as the tapas we enjoyed.
Overall, this is one of the best bang-for-your-buck experiences in Barcelona, and I can’t recommend it enough for everyone from solo travelers to entire families.

Next up is one of the longer cooking classes of its kind, though it’s also one of the most comprehensive. If you’re serious about taking your Spanish cooking skills to the next level, this one should be at the top of your list.
The Paella Cooking Class Las Ramblas & Boqueria Market in Barcelona will not only show you how to whip up a fantastic meal, but how to handpick the ingredients essential for the best results possible.
Starting at 10:00 am in Ciutat Vella, this was the perfect class for me as I had plans for later in the afternoon and evening. I didn’t eat breakfast because I knew I was likely going to fill up while cooking, and I was luckily correct on that one!
Our chef/guide was super welcoming and friendly right from the start, and we were outfitted with our aprons and kitchen tools, and started in right away.
We sipped some wine as we set into our first dish: a refreshing and lightly sweet strawberry gazpacho with mint and brie! I instantly knew that would be one I would be making at home on a regular basis! Next up was the classic Spanish Tortilla and Tomato Bread, before we got started on the main dish: paella, of course!
The paella does take a while, but you can’t rush perfection, and I’d say that the one we whipped up was pretty darn close to that. After we were all finished, we gathered ’round the table and enjoyed our feast, savoring the paella and finishing things off with a luxurious Catalan cream dessert. You can’t get better than this!

4. Premium Paella Cooking Class & 10 Spanish Tapas

- Includes: Prepare a complete gourmet menu guided by a professional chef, Complete menu with drinks and coffees served in Imperial table format, Visit La Boquería market accompanied by the chef or his assistant, Tasting of 10 Tapas with wine tasting and explanation of Spanish gastronomy through those Tapas
While in Spain, I was really eager to dive right into the world of Mediterranean flavors, not only tasting them but learning how to expertly cook with them, myself.
The Premium Paella Cooking Class & 10 Spanish Tapas experience really lives up to its name, offering a fine educational class for everyone from complete newbies to pros. If you’re on the hunt for a comprehensive, beginner-friendly cooking class in Barcelona, this is one of the best around.
Just like the previous couple of classes, this one started off with a fun visit to La Boqueria market, where we chatted a bit with some local vendors and selected the ingredients we’d be using in our 3-course meal.
Having a local chef who’s clearly an expert on the subject was truly invaluable, leading us exactly where we needed to go and offering helpful tips throughout our visit. Then, we headed to our host’s home, which was beautiful and quite charming.
At the market, we’d sampled a whopping 10 different tapas, which were all delicious and many of which I was trying for the first time, which added to my repertoire!
It was probably best that I was already somewhat full, starting into the preparation of our Spanish omelette, paella, and crema Catalana. Washing it down with virtually unlimited local wine selects was the cherry on top, and definitely kept the vibe lighthearted and energetic.
As we worked away, our guide did a great job of regaling us with all kinds of stories about local gastronomy, culture, and history, as well as some personal anecdotes. After, we got to enjoy our meal, taking our time over some good conversation.

5. Barcelona Seafood Paella Class & Sangria with a Top Chef
- Duration: 3 hours
- Departure: La Rambla, 89B, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
- Departure Time: 5:00 PM ,8:30 PM
- Includes: Lunch, dinner, alcoholic beverages, guide, cooking class
Last but certainly not least, is the Barcelona Seafood Paella Class & Sangria with a Top Chef experience. This is the one if you have a tight schedule and need various start time options available to you.
Our guide was incredibly accomodating, offering 3 flexible start options, so you also get to choose if you want to do a lunch or dinner option (a great alternative to just going to a restaurant for a meal)!
Like many of the others on this comprehensive guide to the best Barcelona paella cooking classes, we started with our guide and the other participants in our small group at La Boqueria market.
Here, we learned how to select the freshest seafood, veggies, spices, and produce, while doing a few tapas tastings as we went! After we gathered everything we needed, we headed to a pro cooking studio, which was just as beautiful as it was effective.
We had plenty of room to work and our chef guide managed to direct all of us at once while still answering any and all of our questions with grace and humor. We started off with some refreshing cava and got into making the traditional pan con tomate topped with ham and cheese before the sangria workshop.
I can confidently say that I now make the best sangria in my entire friend group – the potential downside is that they always ask me to do it now! Then, we started on the multi-step process of making the delicacy that is paella – note, that you do get to choose whether you want to make a seafood, chicken, or veggie paella at the start of your tour.
With a bottomless glass of wine and plenty of time to enjoy your creations afterward, these 3 hours will just fly by! Overall, I’d recommend this tour to anyone, regardless if you’re a solo traveler, with a partner, or with an entire family or friend group.
