I actually had no idea that it was possible to visit so many of the country’s top attractions in just one day until I took this tour! Your day starts out early in the morning in order to take full advantage of the light while avoiding a lot of the crowds at some of the more popular sites.
Our guide picked us right up from our hotel lobby in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, regaling us with interesting historical and geological background as we cruised along smoothly.
Our first stop was at La Casa del Cafe Doka, where we got to learn all about how this coffee plantation produces its rich, delicious products and even got to enjoy a mouthwatering coffee tasting in a rustic restaurant afterward!
The landscapes along the way were absolutely gorgeous and almost felt like we were more like on a Disney ride or something, with waterfalls, charming towns, and volcano views at every look.
We made stops at a couple of different waterfall look-out points, where we had some traditional snacks and watched hummingbirds fly around before heading to the Centro Turistico Las Iguanas!
The iguanas we saw were actually adorable, and it was very interesting being able to observe and learn about them in their natural habitat, along with seeing sloths for the first time!
We took a break after for a traditional Costa Rican lunch to fuel up for our 2-hour zip-lining adventure over the stunning Arenal River! We even got to learn about the Maleku tribe firsthand, hearing stories about their culture and the history behind it in relation to this beautiful region.
After all that, you deserve some relaxation and decompression at the Paradise Hot Springs and Gardens!

That wasn’t a big deal to us, as the meetup point was quite easy to get to – especially as we picked a morning start time with minimal traffic along the way. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff, who gave us a safety presentation and fitted us for all safety gear, with ziplining guidance throughout.
We did have a complete newbie who was afraid of heights, and were very impressed at how kind the staff members were, making her feel comfortable enough that she did every single zipline by the time we were through!
Heading up high into the canopy was an experience I hope everyone can have, with a breathtaking open-air gondola ride that hinted at the amazing views you are rewarded with once at the zipline deck.
With the help of staff, you’ll be instructed on how to soar through 7 different cables over the incredible forest, filled with magnificent creatures that call this place “home”.
We caught sight of toucans, snakes, and even some monkeys before enjoying a well-deserved break at their on-site restaurant with some incredible views, as well. After refueling, we did the guided hanging bridges which was a load of fun!
Overall, it’s hard to believe you can do so much in just a couple of hours, and really broaden your horizons with an activity that challenges many peoples’ resolves.

4. 12-Cable Zipline Canopy Tour Over Waterfalls
- Duration: 6 hours
- Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off included
- Departure Time: 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM
- Includes: Harness, helmets, gloves, bottled water
It’s not every day that most people get to fly over stunning waterfalls and treetops with completely unobstructed, open-air views of one of the most biodiverse rainforests in the world.
However, if you’re feeling up to it, the 12-Cable Zipline Canopy Tour Over Waterfalls offers that in spades – perfect for any age group or experience level! If you’re physically comfortable with aa relatively challenging hike, then this is one of the most rewarding ziplining tours you could take!
There are different start times available in both the morning and afternoon, so you get to select the one that works best with your schedule. We chose the earliest morning option and were picked up at our hotel by their bus, which offered plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the scenery as we cruised on by.
Upon arrival, it was clear that we’d made a good decision, with friendly and well-organized staff there to coordinate everything smoothly (very clean facilities, as well!).
We headed up a quick hike to the zipline area, overlooking the stunning tropical canopy where we enjoyed 12 cables that stretch over almost nearly 1000 meters!
We saw plenty of beatuiful wildlife and interesting plants – not to mention two over the cables go over the amazing Pino Blanco and La Fortuna waterfalls, which were undoubtedly my favorites! However, the others were by no means disappointing – rivers and plenty of flora and fauna are all sitting below the other lines to enjoy.
The zipline stops at a local Maleku Indigenous Village, where our guides took us to meet natives to the country, and learn about how they’ve lived off the land for thousands of years!
After, you get the choice to take a waterfall hike at no extra charge (though it is a bit challenging, so keep this in mind if you do decide to!). Once you reach the waterfall, you have some time to sit and soak it all in at your leisure.

Here’s another great option if you’re looking for a relatively short tour that offers a load of fun! The Arenal Canopy Adventure & Tarzan Swing excursion is perfect for the entire family, solo travelers, or couples who are looking for an exhilirating activity to partake in together!
This aerial experience offers some of the most unique, beautiful views of the Costa Rican rainforest with well-maintained equipment and professional staff there to lead the way.
As this tour is just 2 hours long, you have many different tour start times available to you, so you can select which one fits in best with your itinerary. Despite it being a shorter tour, I loved that they still came to pick us up at our hotel, which gave us more time to get ready.
The ride out to the park wasn’t long at all, which made it that much easier to fit into our schedule, too. Once we arrived, the staff was there to greet us and provide a safety briefing as we geared up in our harnesses and safety equipment, while our staff ensured we had put everything on correctly.
We then made the climb up to the first platform, which is the easiest and least intimidating of the lines – perfect for beginners or those who are a bit nervous about heights. After doing the first line, I had a smile on my face the entire time – after all, it’s not all the time that I get to see gorgeous nature views like these!
Our guide did a great job of pointing out different animals along the way which was really cool – even offering us some educational commentary about the incredibly diverse flora and fauna found here!
After we went through all the cables, we had some time to rest with bottled water and fresh tropical fruits they provided to us. What a great time this was!
