Perhaps you’re the type of person who likes to steer the ship yourself when it comes to tours. Rather than following a guide around, you prefer a self-guided experience where you get to decide how long or short you stay at each landmark.
If that sounds like you, check out the E-Bike Florence Tuscany Self-Guided Ride with Vineyard Visit, which offers an immersive day out from Florence to the rolling vineyards of Chianti.
No need to worry about keeping the pace with a group of people you don’t know or sticking to a rigid schedule – all you have to do is pick up your handy e-bike, GPS route maps, put your phone in the holder, and set off!
You do have roadside assistance should you need it, which is also a huge relief, particularly when in a foreign country! The shop was super helpful in ensuring we were matched with bikes that worked with our varying heights, and answered all of our questions.
We started off with an approximately 45-minute ride to the beautiful Fiesole town, where we took a well-deserved morning break for an incredible, rich espresso while soaking in the views of Florence from the monastery.
After that, we hopped back on our bikes and continued to the Arno River for a visit to a boutique vineyard for a proper wine tasting and picnic-style lunch of local produce (additional cost). It may sound like a lot of biking, but as they are e-bikes, you’re heavily assisted to the point that you hardly have to pedal to get moving!
This is one of the most stunning experiences I’ve ever had, and the entire route was like something out of a fairytale, complete with castles. While a significant portion of the route is uphill, if you’re in moderate shape, you’ll be just fine. Just remember to bring along some sunscreen and comfortable clothing!

2. Florence: Half-Day Tuscan Countryside Bike Tour and Tastings
- Duration: 4 hours
- Departure: Via del Campuccio, 90, 50125 Firenze
- Departure Time: 9:15 AM. 2:00 PM
- Includes: 24-gear touring bike, Helmet, Tour guide, Water bottle, Olive oil tasting, A glass of Chianti wine, Tuscan appetizer of local products
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours and into the fresh air, surrounded by rolling hills, olive groves, Chianti wine, and great company. The Florence: Half-Day Tuscan Countryside Bike Tour and Tastings has an expert local guide at the helm to lead the way, delivering fun personal anecdotes and local stories to keep you engaged throughout.
If you’re even vaguely interested in jaw-dropping views, wine, olive oil production, and adventure, you’re in for a real treat with this one! Your 4-hour tour kicks off by meeting up with your guide and the rest of your small group right inside the historical city walls of Florence, in a lovely area called “Oltrarno”.
Get your 24-gear touring bike, safety equipment, complimentary bottled water, and set off through a gorgeous neighborhood and into the incredible Tuscany. There were no lulls in excitement, as right when we completed our first hill, we were treated to an amazing view of Villa Poggio Imperiale, which we learned is a classic Medici family villa under UNESCO status.
After maybe 40 more minutes of riding in the hills, we stopped at an ancient literary cafe – a real surprise for me, seeing as I absolutely love everything about it! I know that it all depends on availability that day, so some visitors may instead stop at an ancient Renaissance villa.
We then took some time to stroll through the lovely olive orchards before heading inside for a fantastic wine and olive oil tasting with the staff! Along with our oil and wine, we had some local cold cuts and homemade bread, which I really wish I could’ve taken a whole suitcase of home with me.
We had plenty of time for more sightseeing and digesting during our ride back to Florence, along with some gorgeous views of the city. It’s pretty much entirely a downhill trip on the way back, thank goodness!

The Florence: 2-Hour Guided Bike Tour – Small Group experience is intimate, interactive, and personalized to you and your group members’ interests! With an expert local guide to ride alongside you, there’s never a shortage of historical accounts, secret spots, and fun facts throughout!
Kick things off at the Florence Tours Enjoy Biking center, where they’ll provide you with a bike that suits your stature, as well as a helmet and headset, so you won’t miss out on anything your guide has to say.
Our guide was a native to Florence, so he offered insight no history channel or book could – not only the typical facts and sights, but plenty of hidden gems off the regular tourist path, accompanied by plenty of anecdotes!
If you’re traveling with kids and are worried about keeping their attention, I’d say this is the tour to take. Not only was the storytelling top-notch, but the itinerary had a solid pace, and we made stops for photos along the way so no one became too tired.
We had a blast riding through the historic city center, across the river into the Oltrarno district, over the Ponte Vecchio, plus some local spots often skipped over by “regular” tours.
I will say that you need a bit of cycling confidence here as you do cross a couple of busy streets, though our guide did a great job of keeping us safe and well-directed. As this is a shorter tour, also remember that no food or wine is included; however, our guide provided us with many great food recommendations (particularly, gelato!).

4. Florence Hills E-Bike Tour with Gelato Tasting
- Duration: 2 hours
- Departure: Via dei Neri, 50122 Firenze
- Departure Time: 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 5:00 PM
- Includes: Use of electric bicycle, Water refilling station for personal water bottles, Use of helmet, Licensed Tour escort, Rain coat (if necessary), Rear seat for children (on request), Delicious “Gelato”
This next tour is another fantastic choice if you’re on a time crunch or need plenty of flexibility for your busy schedule. The Florence Hills E-Bike Tour with Gelato Tasting is yet another 2-hour experience, though instead of focusing on the city, it takes you out to the charming hills and includes the absolutely necessary iconic local dessert.
Something else that sets this tour apart from the previous one is that you have an e-bike rather than a “regular” bike, which greatly assists your pedaling for an easier, low-effort ride.
You get to choose between either the 10:45 am afternoon option of the 5:00 pm evening option, depending on which works best for you. I took the evening option as it was a hot summer day and I didn’t want to risk getting burned during the middle of the day.
You’ll meet your guide and the rest of your small group just a few steps from the legendary Uffizi Museum (another must-see!), get your e-bike and helmet, and set off! While you will start in a busier area of the city, you’ll quickly progress onto clean bike paths and over to the other side of Florence, where you’ll take in some of the most impeccable countryside views.
As we cruised along, we listened to our guide’s interesting personal anecdotes combined with plenty of fascinating historical and cultural insights, essentially bringing the Renaissance era to life for us.
If you’re interested in seeing the hillier parts of Florence, this is the best way to do it – you get the fresh air without having to put in all the effort required to scale hills like you would on a regular bike.
Along your route, you’ll also see plenty of iconic spots such as the Piazzale Michelangelo, the San Miniato, Villa Pian dei Giullari, and the INAF Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory. The latter is one I hadn’t really checked out prior to this tour, and it was crazy learning about Galileo’s confinement and other wild stories.
Oh, and if that weren’t cool enough, at the end of your tour, you’ll even receive a voucher to one of the best gelato places around.

With a small group maxing out at just 14 participants, you don’t have to worry about feeling like just another head in a crowd. Rather, your guide will answer all of your questions and make sure everyone is safe and involved in the experience!
This route can be customized depending on what your group feels like, but typically, it covers the historic center. This includes stops at legendary places like Santa Croce, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, and the charming Oltrarno neighborhood.
It’s a great selection for both first-time visitors and seasoned visitors who want a slightly different perspective on the birthplace of the Renaissance. Thanks to the included headsets, we clearly heard everything our guide said, which made things so much safer and more convenient.
After we were done sightseeing for the day, we all went over and had a fantastic gelato tasting while laughing and reminiscing about our tour. I’d recommend this one to anyone, whether you’re a solo traveler, going with a partner, or bringing the entire family along.
