My first time walking through the little alleyways and picturesque Venetian canals, I was taken aback by the smell of delicious dishes and heard the clinking of wine glasses all around me.

Our first stop of the day was at one of Venices’s best cicchetti bars known for serving up this local kind of Italian “tapas” (small dishes made to be shared).
One of my favorite stops was at the 18th-century bar on Strada Nuova, which was cool based on the vibe and history alone, but their cod cicchetti and fantastic wine selection made it all the better.

After this, we had some time to digest as we crossed the Grand Canal on a charming passenger ferry at the famous Rialto Market! This was my first time on one of the iconic gondola boats and was such a wonderful way to experience the “highway” of Venice.
In Rialto, I got to see how locals come and gather their local produce before stopping at a little eatery run by young Venetians who have come up with some really interesting dishes that combine modern techniques with more traditional recipes.
These were just a couple of stops we made, and I was surprised at just how much we were able to see on this tour! I’d recommend it to anyone who just arrived to Venice for the first time!

It felt like something out of a fairytale, and I felt like a true VIP when we toured the 2 different wine estates with the owners/family, themselves!
At each location, we were taught about the history and production of Prosecco, beginning in the small town of the same name that was also given to the local castle where the wine was originally produced so many years ago!
We tried brut, extra-dry, dry, and rosè Prosecco, where we learned about the different grapes and processes behind each one as we tasted. We also learned about how to properly pair them and tried plenty of tasty snacks as we went.
Afterward, we filled up on some delicious lunch at the famous Osteria senz’Oste, which has equally delicious food as it does amazing views.

We strolled around the picturesque canals, making intermittent stops at quaint osterias and hidden enotecas to try a bunch of fantastic regional wines! We tried everything from crisp Pinot Grigios to bold Amarones, learning how to pair each with some tasty snacks.
Avoiding the tourist traps, we were enthralled in the legends and anecdotes our guide regaled to us from each neighborhood, seamlessly working the stories back to the foods and wines we were sampling.

Our guide surprised me with how much they knew about wine from this region, learning about the centuries-old tradition of winemaking that defines this part of Italy.
Upon arrival to our first stop at the first winery, I already had a nice amount of knowledge but this really took us deep into the Prosecco production process.
After trying some glasses of Prosecco Superiore DOCG, we then had a delicious local lunch consisting of various typical dishes made with fresh ingredients (my favorite was the salami and cheese).
After refueling, we then continued to the second wine tasting with amazing views and plenty of more wine tasting. Overall, this was an adventure that I’d recommend to anyone – even if you aren’t particularly into wine.
