Expand To See More You’ll learn all about the eruption of Vesuvius that covered the entire civilization of Pompeii in thick dust and debris, leaving them essentially frozen in time. Tour around the different homes, shops, and other interesting spots to gain insight into the lives that they lived. After, you’ll take a comfortable coach over to a vineyard to sip on some delicious local wines and enjoy a light lunch with incredible views of the imposing Mt. Vesuvius. After fueling up, head up to the volcano itself for some breathtaking vistas over the azure Gulf of Naples. Here, you’ll also soak up plenty of knowledge surrounding the history and geology of the crater, which is equally as threatening as it is fascinating. It’s a bit ironic that the tragic story of Pompeii occurred right next to one of the most arguably beautiful places in the world – the Amalfi Coast. With our next tour, they’ve curated an itinerary that makes it easy and stress-free to see them both in one day. Normally quite challenging to access, the Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Private Day Trip tour makes them both easy to experience with professional guides to lead the way. This 9-hour tour kicks off with some comfortable transport picking you up right from your hotel lobby, so there’s no need to book separate transport yourself. As you cruise along, enjoy the beautiful sights as your guide shares interesting facts and historical accounts about the area. Your first destination is Pompeii, where history waits for you to unravel its secrets at your own pace on a private tour. After learning about the intense history that buried an entire city in ashes and having time to walk around, you’ll head along the rugged coast to the famed Positano. Enjoy the picturesque views of the seaside village and take some time to explore the little boutiques and cafes. I’ve had some of the most incredible coffee here, so if you’re a lover of the liquid gold I highly recommend stopping by for some. Expand To See More Pass Comune Praiano and one of the coast’s most unique geological features – Fiordo di Furore – before arriving in breathtaking Amalfi. About an hour from Positano, you’ll finally get to experience the 9th-century Sant’Andrea cathedral known for its Roman Catholic background and being the Patron Saint and protector of Amalfi. Learn all about its intrepid history along with the city’s maritime past before exploring the boutique shops that sit on either side of the streets. On this tour, you can also opt to visit the nearby Ravello, which is known for being more peaceful with stunning views of the Mediterranean sea. Wines made from grape vines grown in volcanic soil are some of the most coveted in the world, thanks to the high amount of iron and potassium. This creates a unique “salty-sweet” flavor profile with deep complexity that even the biggest wine connoisseurs search for. With the From Sorrento: Mount Vesuvius Tour with Lunch & Wine Tasting, you’ll get to enjoy a special tasting of this specific type of wine while also learning about the infamous Mount Vesuvius for a tour unlike any other. This 6-hour tour kicks off around 9 am so you’ll be back at your hotel in time for dinner, after a day of eating, sipping, and learning about the area. Everyone will head to the agreed-upon meetup point and board a comfortable, air-conditioned coach and make your way to Vesuvius. Along the way, the guide does a great job at telling historical facts in a captivating way while you can gaze out amongst the rolling countryside hills. Once you arrive to the towering Vesuvius, you’ll actually get the chance to walk right along the volcanic lip and peer into the crater that once exploded in fiery destruction. Expand To See More Nowadays, it’s eerily calm here, with stunning vistas of the surrounding valleys and turquoise sea. After taking some snaps of the scenery, head back to the bus and get ready for some delicious wine right at the foot of the mountains. Here, you’ll discover the secrets of local winemaking right from the source, while strolling through the sun-kissed vineyards and learning about these plump grapes. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to taste the craftsmanship while enjoying some local snacks of bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, local cheese, salami, spaghetti, and Neopolitan pie. The 3 wine tastings consist of a rosé, red, and white, so you’ll be able to appreciate each profile and see which is your personal favorite. Brace yourself for an exhilarating, educational journey back in time hundreds of years on our next tour. The From Sorrento: Pompeii and Vesuvius Tour will let you experience the notorious volcano and Pompeii like the vast majority of tourists don’t get to. This is a great way to escape the city and learn more about this famed area than you ever could from a history book! Depart Sorrento in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus and enjoy the journey filled with expansive views of the Italian countryside as your guide regales you with historical facts. As you step onto the hallowed ground of Pompeii, it feels like entering some sort of portal to an antiquated era. You’ll see the scenes that were frozen in time, from where Romans once strolled, where empires rose and fell, villas, an amphitheater, and so much more. Hearing the story in history class was nothing like actually getting to explore the ruins and gaining a glimpse into the everyday lives of those who walked these streets so long ago. Expand To See More Enter their homes, learn about their rituals, and even individual stories of some of the people who once lived here. After the comprehensive guided tour, head straight up to the belly of the beast: Vesuvius. The coach will ascend up the winding roads up to an impressive altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level. Make sure you bring a good pair of hiking shoes, because you’ll be doing a bit of that in order to reach the edge of the volcano’s crater. You’ll have the chance to literally stare into the abyss, as well as the amazing view of the Bay of Naples down below. While Pompeii is the town that often is acknowledged in the unfortunate eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, did you know that another town was also destroyed in its path? Herculaneum was also completely devastated, buried in thick ash from the brutal volcano’s wrath. With the Sorrento: Pompeii & Herculaneum Tour with Skip-the-Line, you’ll get to see both of the incredibly well-preserved sites and learn what life was like a couple of millennia ago. After leaving Sorrento at 9:00 am by means of a luxurious, air-conditioned coach, you’ll head for your first stop: Herculaneum. This once-thriving coastal gem now sits forever frozen in time, with streets lined with Roman homes, filled with stories untold. Buried beneath layers of volcanic mud for centuries, you’ll learn how it was discovered in the 1700s – which in itself was a huge revelation! The 1-hour tour covers a ton, where you’ll see the original timbers, clay pots and tools, hotels, public baths – all with intricate details. Expand To See More After this tour, you’ll have some time to collect your thoughts about what you just experienced or chat with your group mates. Then, head over to Pompeii where you’ll get to cruise through the 2,000-year-old temples, forums, theaters, and learn all about the stories that happened here. I’m someone who’s super into architecture and art, and was absolutely fascinated by the archaeological sites seen here. I also felt that with the business of Pompeii and the more relaxed environment of Herculaneum was well-balanced. The professional guides couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful, and really were the cherry on top of this already incredible experience. The Pompeii Guided Tour from Sorrento Coast experience is a fantastic experience if you’re looking for insight into this legendary place and the tragedy that occurred here. Expect to learn far more than what you’d ever be able to gain from a history book or YouTube video – here, you’re dealing with professional local guides who know all the ins and outs. Not to mention, you’re saving far more time and money than you would if you’d have booked everything separately! Your day starts out in the morning to maximize daylight and avoid crowding as much as possible, though the exact time will depend on what you and your guide decide on. They’ll arrive right at your hotel lobby in an air-conditioned vehicle, so there’s no need to worry about organizing transportation or finding a meet-up point. As this is a very exclusive tour limited to a max of just 8 participants, you can expect to benefit from plenty of one-on-one time with your guide and feel free to ask any questions you may have. The ride out there is smooth and easy, and once you arrive, you’ll waste no time having to deal with queues, thanks to the included skip-the-line tickets. Not to mention, your ticket offers access to all the archaeological digs and artefacts found during excavations in Pompeii and the surrounding areas. A 2-hour walking tour of Pompeii is included as well, so you’ll get a snapshot into daily Roman life while passing thermal baths, homes, temples, stores, and more! Our guide did a fantastic job of bringing the past to life in a way that respected the tragedy and seriousness while perhaps offering a bit of a lighthearted twist and humor at appropriate times. We not only learned a ton about the history and importance of the site, but got to take some fantastic photos, thanks to our guide bringing us to the best locations.

The Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento. Rome is a massive tourist destination and busy city, no matter the time of year, so if you’re looking for more of an immersive experience, it’s a nice choice.
It’s surrounded by nature with incredible viewpoints and plenty of incredible artifacts and ruins to soak in, with an actual archaeologist there to lead you through Pompeii to learn from the very best.
This is a full-day excursion, considering it typically lasts around 12 hours with the transport time included. However, it’s one of the most convenient ways to experience Pompeii if you’re in Rome – much more so than if you were to book the transportation and entry tickets yourself.
Start out in the morning with a nice hotel pickup from your guide, boarding your air-conditioned coach and setting off. Once we arrived to Pompeii, I was grateful we didn’t dive right into our tour, but rather went for a strong coffee and a light Italian breakfast to fuel up a bit for our adventure.
Then, it was time to head to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, where we met the archaeologist and covered the highlights, along with some more “hidden gems”. Some of the ruins were so well-preserved, it was incredible to think about how much time had passed since Vesuvius blew its top.
Afterward, we took a leisurely cruise along the gorgeous Sorrento coastline, stopping for some fantastic photo ops along the way. We even made a stop at a beautiful local restaurant right on the seaside for an authentic Italian lunch, munching as we appreciated the postcard-esque views of the water.
I’d recommend this tour to anyone of any age or background, so long as you’re okay to walk for a bit in the heat!
