Munich’s beer culture is legendary, and while there’s no incorrect way to explore it, this tour takes it to a whole new level.

The Beer and Schnapps Day-Drinking Tour of Munich is a fun-filled, educational evening combining the city’s finest beer with its rich traditions of schnapps and local eats. Pair that with the fairytale-like scenery of Munich’s historic streets and you have the makings of an unforgettable adventure.

It’s not always easy to fit into the more authentic part of a city when you’re visiting, especially when it comes to such a huge tourist city like Munich. Perfect for seasoned beer aficionados just as well as newbies, this tour has everything you need with its all-inclusive nature.

Starting off at 2:30 pm, it’s a great way to relax and let loose a bit after a day of exploring – you’re about to see some of the coolest beer halls and bars in all of Germany!

Start off by meeting your guide in Marienplatz, which you may have already checked out considering it’s the city’s most popular square. You’ll visit a beerhall just steps away and learn all about its dramatic background while you enjoy some traditional Bavarian snacks, fantastic beers, and classic schnapps.

After, you’ll head to a charming local bar where you’ll sit down with your guide and rest of your group, feeling the liveliness from the locals all around you as you try some light snacks, beer, more schnapps, and more.

The highlight of the tour for me was our visit to Frauenplatz, where we stopped in a beerhall that’s hundreds of years old, located right next to Munich’s gorgeous cathedral. We learned about how some of the beers served here were originally brewed by Benedictine monks!

This was one of the most stress-free tours I’ve ever taken, and I highly recommend taking it for your first night in the city!

For beer lovers, Munich is somewhat of a pilgrimage, and the Beer and Brewery Tours in Munich is an absolute venture deep into the metropolis’ world-famous brewing culture.

While it’s hard to avoid having a fun time here, for the history buffs and those who lean a bit towards being interested in the craftsmanship behind the brews, this is a top choice.

This is a more genuine look into the “behind the scenes” of the city’s most prestigious breweries, with exclusive access to historic beer halls and renowned brewing facilities.

If you’ve wanted to see the legendary Hofbrauhaus but have been feeling intimidated, this is also the right choice for you. You have an expert local guide there to lead the way, showing you traditional beer-drinking games and more!

It goes far beyond the beer itself, offering a taste of Munich’s true beer culture – the high-spirited, welcoming atmosphere that melds tradition with innovation.

With a small-group setting and a more laidback pace, you have plenty of time to ask questions, soak in all the sights, and most importantly, enjoy the beers just like a true local.

It was incredibly interesting checking out historic breweries like Paulaner, while we learned about the roots of the Reinheitsgebot (purity law), as well as how these age-old recipes have remained consistent over time.

Our tour guide did a great job of bringing history to life, venturing to the famous Hofbrauhaus beer hall, and chatting with other travelers from all around the world.

I can see why they’re so renowned for their brewing history and beer, and if I had a bigger stomach I would have happily downed my entire “mass” liter glass!

This next tour was one of the best evening excursions I’ve ever partaken in, showing off the delicious traditional beer and snacks of Munich while soaking up interesting historical info surrounding the scene.

The Munich beer and Bavarian Bites Small-Group Tour is ideal if you’re intrigued by the local beer scene, but also fascinated by local Bavarian culture and history! Whether you’re a solo traveler looking to socialize, going with a significant other, or an entire friend group, there’s something for everyone here.

Starting at 5:00 pm, it’s a great way to spend an evening in Munich, visiting not only some of the most famous sites around the city center, but also discovering many of the hidden gems most visitors don’t get to experience.

This small-group experience feels more intimate and personal, with a friendly local guide passionate about their city’s history and beer scene. What really stands out about this tour is the focus on the perfect pairing of local food and drink, from bratwurst to pretzels, sausages to pastries.

I’m a huge fan of Bavarian food, so experiencing some of the coolest markets and beer halls to enjoy the best of the best was amazing – even better with a local guide!

Start out at Marienplatz and visit a tavern for some local pub food and beer before exploring the Oktoberfest museum, which was incredibly insightful into the culture and science behind the beverage.

It takes around an hour or so, and you’ll get to see some cool artifacts relating back to the production of beer! Here, we tried 3 local beers along with a traditional Bavarian dish before doing some people-watching and tastings at a Bavarian castle!

The tour wouldn’t be complete without trying Frauenkirche’s beer and venturing into Gartnerplatzviertel, to a busy local bar ideal for making new friends and sipping great brews. It’s artsy, quirky, and full of surprises!

4. Munich Craft Beer & Microbrewery Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Departure: Taubenstraße 2, 81541 München
  • Departure Time: 5:00 PM
  • Includes: 7 craft beer tastings, 1 food tasting, non-alcoholic drinks and beers available, experienced local guide, history and subculture of Munich, microbrewery visit

The Munich Craft Beer & Microbrewery Tour is an off-the-beaten-path adventure perfect for beer lovers and those who avoid alcohol but are still interested in the history and culture of the city!

The first day I was in Munich I spent so much time trying to find different locations and at times make sure I had the appropriate tickets, but this tour completely eliminates all of that hassle.

You get a professional local guide who knows the city like the back of their hand and will take you around the parts of Munich that are often missed on standard tours, offering more of an authentic view of what life is like here.

The 3-hour tour comes with many different start times which also makes it one of the easiest excursions to add into your itinerary.

Thanks to the small-group setting, it feels more personalized, with our guide casually chatting with us about the history and culture surrounding each place that we visited.

It was definitely fun and laidback rather than feeling like we were being herded around and rushed, as some tours tend to be. I really enjoy taking photos and learning about the architecture of a place, and our guide did a great job of that!

Before we really set into things, we stopped at the beautiful Wittelsbacherbrucke bridge crossing the Isar River, where we learned about the stone carvings, the Wittelsbach dynasty, and the sculpture of Duke Otto I.

Checking out Ludwigvorstadt-Isavorstadt was interesting, hearing about why it’s the site of Oktoberfest each year, and how they all built it from scratch in the 19th-century.

Along the way, we stopped for 7 different craft beer tastings, some of which I’d never tried before, which was quite insightful. We also had a food tasting, and a member of my group who doesn’t drink alcohol was even served non-alcoholic drinks, which he appreciated.

I loved the way history, architecture, and beer culture was balanced in this tour and if you’re interested in any of those subjects, you can’t go wrong here.

5. Bavarian Beer and Food Evening Tour in Munich

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 3.5 hours
  • Departure: Dachauer Str. 4, 80335 München
  • Departure Time: 6:00 PM
  • Includes: Bavarian beer and food samples, local guide, alcoholic beverages

If you’re curious about Munich’s legendary beer scene and hearty Bavarian cuisine, this next tour is a must. Offering a more authentic look at Munich’s food and drink, you’ll be taken on a delicious journey through the city’s historic beer halls, local hotspots, and plenty of hidden gems.

The Bavarian Beer and Food Evening Tour in Munich is a fantastic alternative to going out to dinner and is a great way to become introduced to the city’s nightlife.

I’d recommend this tour more so if you’re on a tighter budget but still want to get thrown right into Munich’s beer culture. The group size is a bit larger on this excursion and can range anywhere from 10 to 20 participants, on average.

However, our guide still managed to keep everyone engaged and I felt like visiting important sites like the famous Hofbrauhaus was almost more exciting in the larger group setting as there were so many people there, anyway.

They took us on a completely exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum, which was so cool and is housed in a building that’s been around since 1347!

We had a great time learning about the tribal Hausfrauen brew-women and how Germany has continued its tradition of brewing impeccable beers.

After enjoying some of their products at Hofbrauhaus, we went on a historical walking tour through Munich on our way to have dinner at the Hackerhaus.

Here, you’ll enjoy a mouthwatering, hearty traditional Bavarian dinner, including all kinds of meats and cheeses, amongst other treats. It’s a great intro to the local cuisine and drinks!
