1. Willamette Valley Wine Tour with Lunch

Tour Highlights:

If you’re looking for a full-day adventure out in the tranquil, beautiful valley outside of the business of the city. The Willamette Valley Wine Tour with Lunch is an immersive journey right into the heart of Oregon’s renowned wine country, with world-class pinots, chardonnay, and rieslings.

Covering 3 well-reputed wineries, you’ll get to learn firsthand from the best of the best, in a fun and well-organized tour that I absolutely fell in love with.

Our day started out in the morning with a 9:00 am pickup, making it the tour with the earliest start time. However, I rather preferred this due to the fact that it’s a nearly 8-hour experience and I prefer to be back before the sun goes down.

After we were picked up from our hotel, we headed out in our comfortable vehicle while watching the rolling hills and the magnificent Cascade Mountains outside the window.

The Willamette Valley is home to over 250 vineyards, so the first time I wanted to visit some of them I truly didn’t know where to begin.

This tour left all the guesswork behind, putting things into the hands of our expert guide who created a custom itinerary based on our preferences and interests. Depending on yours, specifically, you could even cover up to 5 wineries!

I am a huge fan of rieslings and chardonnay, so we went to wineries that produced some of the best in the nation! At each stop, we wandered through beautiful historic estates, headed into the cellars, learned about wine grape production, and of course, got to sample plenty of the products!

After that, we even had a delicious, gourmet, country-style lunch in the open air with breathtaking surroundings.

Tucked right into the stunning landscapes of the Willamette Valley lies seemingly endless wine country where plenty of top-notch wines are produced.

The Private Customized Willamette Valley Wine Maker Tour with Lunch will take you on an unforgettable journey through this captivating region with a full-day excursion. It’s not your cookie cutter tour with a big group, though – rather, it’s a private group setting with customizable itineraries!

Just like the previous tour, this one also includes a convenient hotel pickup right from your lobby so you don’t have to deal with catching an Uber or using public transportation to meet up with your guide.

Rather, you’ll set out in an air-conditioned vehicle with big windows for viewing the gorgeous natural landscapes outside as you cruise out to the valley from Portland. This one starts out in the morning as well, so you really do get to take advantage of the entire day!

We learned that our tour guide was a professional winemaker himself, offering us amazing educational commentary along the way in an intriguing, personal way.

Our first stop was Domaine Serene Vineyards & Winery, which is a high-quality winery that has an equally phenomenal facility and estate! We tried a very fancy wine tasting including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and many other gems.

At Argyle Winery, we had a champagne wine flight made of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and/or Chardonnay grapes, and we learned all about the differences as we sipped.

We visited quite a few others, but the amazing lunch consisting of a 6-course tasting menu was well curated and absolutely delicious. I can’t imagine a more perfect day of wine tasting in the Willamette Valley, and I’m so happy with the experience and education I gained here.

3. Willamette Valley Wine Tour from Portland (Tasting Fees Included)

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 6 hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Departure Time: 12:00 PM
  • Includes: Wine tasting fees for 3 vineyards, local guide, transportation by Mercedes-Benz sprinter van, bottled water

This next tour is a little bit shorter and a little easier on the wallet, though it isn’t completely a private experience.

Rather, it’s a small group tour consisting of no more than just 8 participants so you still get personalized guide attention without feeling like another head in the crowd. The Willamette Valley Wine Tour from Portland (Tasting Fees Included) experience

This is also a great option if you don’t want to wake up as early or have morning plans, as it doesn’t start until noon. Despite being more affordable, I was happy that it still included a hotel pickup so we could just wait in the lobby for our guide to come get us.

Ours came to pick us up in a comfortable Mercedes-Benz sprinter van with plenty of room, air-conditioning, and big windows for us to enjoy the view along the way while they told us interesting facts about the surrounding area.

It was cool to learn about how this area used to be known for its nurseries and orchards, and how it’s changed over the years to make wines its main export.

We cruised through the little towns of Newberg, Forest Grove, Sherwood, and Gaston as we visited our 3 different wineries. There are a ton in the valley, and these 3 were definitely impressive selections of only the most renowned estates with beautiful vineyards and architecture.

At each winery we stopped at, we went through a tour to learn about what made each special and try their hand-selected wines! The first one was Blizzard Wines, where we tried amazing reds and chardonnay before heading to Domaine Serene, Tualatin Estate, and many other big names.

It was a great way to learn all about wine in general, Oregon wine country, and plenty cool facts that are fun for any wine novice!

4. Small Group: Willamette Valley Wine Tour From Portland (Tasting Fees Included)

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 7 Hours
  • Departure: 720 SW Broadway, Portland
  • Departure Time: 10:30 AM
  • Includes: All wine tasting fees, local guide, transport in custom 4×4 Mercedes-Benz vehicle, bottled water

Whether you’re a complete newbie when it comes to wine, or are a seasoned wine pro, this next tour is sure to captivate and teach you something new.

The Small Group: Willamette Valley Wine Tour from Portland (Tasting Fees Included) is the perfect way to spend the day with friends, a significant other, or even as a solo traveler. This tour draws many similarities to the previous tour, with some notable differences.

It is very affordable, though I will say that it doesn’t come with an included hotel pickup so you do have to make your way to Pioneer Square to the pickup point.

The transport for the day is a custom 4×4 Mercedes-Benz vehicle which was super smooth, comfortable, and made it all too easy to want to fall asleep! However, the scenery outside is simply too beautiful to miss, and the big windows make it ideal for snapping some photos or taking videos.

I find myself to already be someone who knows a good amount about wine, and I was still impressed by just how thorough and in-depth the guide was.

Rather than just rattling off information, they made everything fun and engaging! I will note that all 3 of the wineries we visited were pretty close to downtown Portland but weren’t in any way lacking in quintessential Oregon vineyard-iness.

Overall, I can attest to the fantastic hospitality, amazing scenery, even more amazing wine, and a memorable experience just outside the city.

If you don’t want to spend all day out there, you can still have a great time on a tour like this. If it’s your first time in Portland, I couldn’t recommend it more for getting to know the surrounding area.

5. Willamette Valley Wine Tour – Full Day Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • Duration: 8 Hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off available
  • Departure Time: 10:00 AM
  • Includes: Driver/guide, bottled water, appointments and reservations made for you

Last but certainly not least, is yet another full-day wine tour experience that felt like a slightly more premium experience at a very affordable price.

The Willamette Valley Wine Tour – Full Day Tour will take you away on a scenic drive through the rolling green countryside, where countless rows of grapevines stand out in the sunlight.

As you head through the valley’s winding roads, you’ll get to try a curated selection of boutique winery offerings while learning from a pro.

What I loved about this experience is that it offers the flexibility of a private tour, with the opportunity to customize our itinerary based on our interests and palate preferences.

For example, if you’re a Pinor Noir fan and would like to explore the region’s top offerings in that vein, your guide will craft a personalized itinerary that reflects that.

I personally recommend trying a more varied tour that allows you the chance to try many different types of wine – perhaps some that you’ve never tried before!

Throughout the day, we were treated with private tastings and behind-the-scenes tours led by passionate winemakers and experts with collectively hundreds of years in the industry.

We were able to engage in insightful conversations about the art and science behind winemaking, gaining a deeper understanding of the different techniques that shape each bottle.

One of my favorite parts was the casual gourmet lunch we munched on in a scenic vineyard surrounded by the tranquil Oregon countryside.

With personalized attention and exclusive access, this tour really did make me feel like a VIP and I got to see so much that the vast majority of visitors don’t get to.

Whether you’re a wine aficionado or are simply searching for a day of relaxation and indulgence, this tour really does deliver. Tailored to your preferences, this tour is full of notorious spots along with plenty of cool hidden gems!
