However, there’s a side of DC that most visitors never experience, which takes place after dark, when crowds thin out, and the marble and granite that largely make up the National Mall take on a more magical quality.

It’s an experience I believe everyone should have, and the Washington DC Monuments by Moonlight Tour by Trolley is a great way to take advantage of it. There are a few different start times available, though they all begin after dusk – perfect if you have the morning or daytime filled with other plans.

Lasting around 2.5 hours, you don’t have to commit to a longer tour and don’t have to worry about it getting too hot and sunny in the daytime (definitely a thing in the summertime!).

Start off by meeting your guide either at Union Station or Washington Welcome Center, and boarding the open-air trolley, which is super easy to recognize with the famed orange and green colorways.
