The South Maui: Whale Watch Kayaking and Snorkel Tour in Kihei combines whale watching, kayaking, and snorkeling β perfect for the person who constantly seeks more!
When we arrived to the meet-up spot, our guide gave us comprehensive and easy-to-follow directions about how to use the kayaks and snorkeling gear. These are sit-on-top kayaks which are much easier to get on and off, so itβs perfect for snorkeling.
As we cruised out onto the water, he shared plenty of fun facts and stories about Hawaii and the rich wildlife that sits just below the surface. With an activity like this, it really requires professional, knowledgeable staff who know exactly what theyβre doing.
Our guide was truly amazing, guiding us to all the best spots in the area so we could experience these gorgeous animals probably as close as possible without actually touching them! If youβre an adrenaline junkie and an animal lover, I canβt think of a better tour to take.
It may sound a bit scary at first, but our guide ensured we stayed a safe distance away while still getting the best view of the different sea creatures. We not only saw whales (though that alone left me awe-struck), but also caught sight of turtles swimming under us, as well as some dolphins in the distance!

The From Kihei: Guided Humpback Whale Migration Cruise is the shortest on this guide, coming in at 1.5 hours. That means that itβs easy to fit into a busy day, but packed full of excitement and learning!
With an intimate, personalized approach and a smaller group size, you get all the attention of the knowledgeable guides. This is one of the most cost-effective tours of its kind, taking place on a nimble raft designed for fast and tight navigation. This is ideal for getting up close to humpback whales without harming them or scaring them off!
With 3 different departure times, you get to select the one that works best for you and your schedule. Onboard, youβll have a naturalist guide who will share all kinds of interesting info about the Auau Channel, humpback whale behavior, local ecology, and more.
Actually, Iβd say this tour in particular offered plenty of information on the behavior and biology of the whales that I hadnβt learned elsewhere. I will say that while the raft was a bit more bumpy than something like a catamaran (obviously), it was a ton of fun and the captain and crew were super entertaining.
It felt that we were just much closer to these giant beauties than we were in larger vessels, and that is something money just canβt buy. If youβre a bit of an adrenaline enthusiast who doesnβt mind getting water splashed on them (and incomparable whale sightings!), then check this one out!

The meeting location on Front Street in Lahaina was super convenient and is close to the majority of the hotels in the area. Once we arrived, we checked in quickly with friendly staff who were clearly well-organized and knew what they were doing. We then met up with the captain and crew and set off onto the raft!

If you have kids older than toddler-age, I think this is a remarkable experience for them to have! The crew did a great job of sharing info about the whales and local ecosystem, and we stopped to listen to the whales communicating with the hydrophone they brought with us!
